BPEF Internship Program
Deadline for applications: January 15, 2007 (for summer internships)
Description: The Business Press Educational Foundation (BPEF) Internship program offers college students summer and year-round internships at select business media companies. Internships are focused on both editorial and non-editorial roles at top B2B companies, including Crain Communications, McGraw Hill, Reed Business Information, and Lebhar-Friedman., among others. Internships are paid opportunities, unless otherwise noted. The BPEF staff works hard to place the best qualified individuals in positions that particularly suit their interests and talents.
Summer internships run 10-12 weeks, based on the needs of the host companies. Most summer internships begin in late May or early June and end in August or early September. BPEF is also offering year-round internships, with start dates to be determined by the host company and the student’s own schedule. Interns typically work at least 35 hours per week.
Internships can be paid or for school credit. For paid positions, the compensation is a minimum of $10/hour. Those students who choose to work for school credit will be compensated by the employer in the form of educational benefits. In order to receive credit, the internship first must be approved by your school.
Requirements: The BPEF Internship Program accepts applications from college sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of college by June, and must be full-time students with a GPA of at least 3.0 in their major.
Most companies prefer a background in journalism, media, and/or communications, and it is helpful to have knowledge of and/or experience in B2B media publishing. For editorial positions, the ideal candidate will have journalistic experience, either through participating in campus journalism or a previous internship at a magazine, newspaper or e-commerce business. For non-editorial positions, students should have academic courses or previous experience in the specific field of interest, such as marketing, production, sales, etc.
BPEF makes every effort to match interns with companies based on the applicants' specific areas of interest, previous experience, and geographic preferences as noted in the application form. However, an exact match is not always possible, and the final placement decision is based on the needs of the participating companies.
